Prayers Needed for a Friend

This morning I need to write something a little different than what was planned.

Kyle is a great guy.  He and his wife minister to college students.  I don’t know him well, but over the last year we have had more connections and a growing friendship for which I’m thankful.

Tuesday afternoon, Kyle’s 45 year old mother and 21 year old disabled brother were murdered.  They were murdered by a man who later killed himself.  The perpetrator had been arrested and accused in July of molesting Kyle’s brother.  The man was a church member where Kyle’s dad is the minister.

There are many layers of sadness to this story.  None of which will ever make sense, nor will we understand.  While it would be easy to cast stones, let us first stop and remember Jesus’ words.  ”He who is without sin…”

Don’t misunderstand.  I’m angry.  I’m very angry.  However, this is a sick and costly reminder that the world we live in is terribly broken.  Jesus’ wrath absorbing punishment on the cross was for such heinous and disgusting brokenness.  I don’t defend any sinners.  I only look with sadness and hopefully an ounce of mercy that only for God’s grace in my life have I not had the hardness of heart to fall to such depths.   May we all beg for God’s mercy to protect us from evil and the pride that tempts us, “I would never ____.”

I ask that your pray for Kyle, his wife, his father and two surviving brothers.  Pray for the church where Kyle’s family ministers and where Kyle himself ministers.  Pray that in the worst of tragedies, Jesus will be present as Comforter, Healer and Prince of Peace.

May Jesus be glorified as the only hope of the world.
